Winter term 2024/2025

2802 first-semester students start their studies at OTH Regensburg

The number of first-year students at OTH Regensburg will reach its highest level in the past five years in the winter term 2024/25.

The 2802 first-semester students at OTH Regensburg have already proven that they are eager to learn. The university's largest lecture theatre was filled to capacity on Tuesday, 1 October, for the first semester welcome. They heard first-hand from Prof Dr Ralph Schneider, President of OTH Regensburg, why they are in exactly the right place today. OTH Regensburg is an excellent choice for the students with its practical degree programme, close cooperation with companies and focus on sustainability. ‘We are a modern, application-oriented university that offers its students not only outstanding professional qualifications, but also extensive opportunities for personal development,’ said Schneider.

The President also emphasised that the university offers ideal conditions for successful academic and personal development thanks to its international orientation, wide range of additional courses and commitment to equal opportunities. ‘Take advantage of the wide range of programmes offered by OTH Regensburg and actively shape your time at university - it will be worthwhile for your future,’ Schneider encouraged the new students.

11,119 students at OTH Regensburg

A total of 11,119 people are now studying at OTH Regensburg in the winter semester 2024/25. From Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes to dual and part-time courses and doctorates, the university covers a broad spectrum. This semester alone, OTH Regensburg has launched seven new degree programmes. In addition to studying, leisure time should of course not be neglected, for which the city of Regensburg offers the ideal setting. Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer emphasised the advantages of the cathedral city in her welcoming address.

Simon Chrisostome and Klaus Zuchs from the student representatives then explained the groups and associations in which the new fellow students can get involved at the university. Anyone who needs advice or guidance in everyday student life is in good hands at the Student Lifecycle Centre. Head Andrea Stelzl and her colleagues from the General Student Counselling Service, the Family Office and the Career Service introduced themselves to the first-semester students.

Start of the ‘beING’ pre-study programme

After the general welcome event, the deans welcomed their new students to the respective faculties. A special novelty was the introductory event for the ‘beING’ pre-study programme, which will be offered at OTH Regensburg for the first time in the winter semester 2024/25. 15 interested students have enrolled and can get a taste of university life for a semester. Prof Dr Birgit Rösel, Vice President for Teaching, and Prof Dr Hermann Ketterl, provided information about the ‘beING’ programme, which uses various modules to prepare students for a later degree course in engineering.
