‘It's great that you still have such great solidarity after such a long time,’ said a delighted Prof Dr Rainer Holmer, who warmly welcomed the guests as Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Prof Dr Hans-Hellmuth Cuno, retired Professor of Communications Engineering at OTH Regensburg, and Prof Lenz Haggenmiller, also a retired professor, also took part in the reunion of their former students.
Prof. Dr Rainer Holmer began by informing the alumni about current figures and developments at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, which now offers four Bachelor's and five Master's degree courses. For some years now, there has been a nationwide trend towards stagnating or declining interest in studying electrical engineering and information technology. Other traditional engineering disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, are showing a similar trend. Prof Dr Rainer Holmer therefore asked the guests: ‘Please promote electrical engineering and information technology in your environment!’.
There was a lively exchange on the experiences of the alumni from their many years of professional practice, which showed that in addition to the purely technical focus in engineering, other topics, such as project management, also play a central role.
A laboratory tour rounded off the programme at OTH Regensburg. The alumni then celebrated their reunion over dinner together in the La Gondola restaurant. After many entertaining conversations about their time at university, their careers, their private lives and their retirement, everyone agreed: ‘It was great all round.’
