Virtual University Bavaria

Strengthening the employability of international students

Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences and Regensburg University of Applied Sciences are jointly developing a digital course entitled ‘Employability and Working in Germany’. The project, which is supported by ten Bavarian universities and funded by the Virtual University of Bavaria (vhb), aims to prepare international students for the German labour market in the best possible way.

With the increasing internationalisation of degree courses in Bavaria, the qualification of international students plays a central role when entering the job market. The new online course teaches important key qualifications, intercultural skills and practical knowledge that is crucial for internships and starting a career in Germany. ‘International students often lack an understanding of the specifics of the German labour market and the working culture in Germany, rather than the relevant specialist knowledge,’ says Professor Dr Julia Dittrich, project manager at Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences. ‘Our aim is not only to inspire international talent for the German labour market, but also to prepare them specifically for their path there,’ adds Professor Dr Markus Westner, project manager from OTH Regensburg.

The course offers a variety of practice-oriented modules, including application training for the German labour market, insights into industries and career paths in Germany, networks and cultural characteristics in German companies. It will be offered for the first time in the winter semester 2025/26 via the vhb. Students from different subject areas and universities have the opportunity to prepare flexibly and comprehensively for their professional future in Germany.
