Mix of topics from AI to medical technology

The computer science maths project day was a complete success

On Thursday 21 November, the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics opened its doors to around 450 11th and 12th grade students from grammar schools, FOS and BOS from Regensburg and the region, including Schwandorf, Kelheim and Cham.

The annual event ‘Project Day Computer Science Mathematics’ offers young people the opportunity to get to know professors, doctoral students and other dedicated members of staff and to participate in a variety of exciting projects within the faculty.

The project day was opened with a speech and presentation by Prof Dr Frank Herrmann, Dean of the Faculty. This was followed by 19 fast-paced mini-presentations by the project leaders, with which they encouraged the young people to take part in their projects. The broad spectrum of topics ranged from virtual reality and laboratory applied medical technology to maths meets machine vision and speech processing systems. The students then had the opportunity to take part in two projects, giving them a real flavour of the practice-oriented projects at the faculty.

The following projects were on offer:

  • Intelligent systems in computer engineering – Prof Dr Alexander Metzner, Prof Dr Daniel Münch and Matthias Altmann M.Sc.
  • Internet of Things: designing smart technology yourself - Prof Dr Ruben Jubeh
  • IT security in computer science studies - Prof Dr Christoph Skornia and Christof Popp M.Sc.
  • Artificial intelligence in endoscopy: examples, challenges, solutions - Prof Dr Christoph Palm
  • Applied Medical Technology Laboratory - Prof Dr Axel Doering and Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Eva Gschrey
