Mentoring program

A look behind the scenes at Continental

As part of the “professional steps” mentoring program, mentees from various technical degree courses at OTH Regensburg visited the Continental site in Regensburg on 01.04.2025.

Franziska Gschwendtner, HR Location Specialist Employer Branding at Continental and herself an alumna of OTH Regensburg, welcomed the guests and started with a quiz on facts and figures about Continental and the Regensburg site. The Regensburg site alone has around 4,100 employees, which amazed the students. However, the breadth of the product range, which extends from high-performance computers and smart access systems to acceleration and pressure sensors, was also new to some of the guests.

Stefan Hernitscheck then gave a fascinating presentation that gave the students a deep insight into the development of high-performance computers (HPC). Stefan Hernitscheck also studied mechanical engineering at OTH Regensburg. Today, he works as process owner requirements at the Continental site in Regensburg.

After a short tour, the mentees of the “professional steps” program had the opportunity to talk to Continental employees at a networking lunch and find out about internships and working student positions.

The culmination of the event was a guided tour of the production facility. The students were given an exciting insight into the application of Industry 4.0, which illustrated the state-of-the-art production and logistics at the site. The autonomous transport robots, which presented Continental as a modern commercial enterprise, were particularly memorable.

Mentoring program “professional steps”

The "professional steps“ mentoring programis aimed at all students on technical and scientific degree courses. Students (mentees) are supported by an experienced professional (mentor) over the course of two semesters. The aim of the mentoring program is to support students in their personal development. They should gain an insight into practice in order to better master the transition from studying to working life.

In order to better meet the needs of the program's different target groups, three program tracks have been offered since the winter semester 2024/25: professional steps, women's support and international students. In addition to joint networking events, the program focuses on individual tandems.
