The event was dedicated to the important and highly topical subject of IT security, at which all members of both universities were able to obtain comprehensive information and further training.
After welcoming speeches by Prof. Dr Susanne Leist, Vice President of the University of Regensburg, and Prof. Dr Christoph Skornia, Vice President of OTH Regensburg, in which both emphasised the immense importance of IT security in science, business and society, the participants were treated to an exciting and varied programme. One highlight was the presentation by the President of Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, who gave a vivid and practical account of a serious cyberattack on his institution last year and described how they dealt with the challenges.
Dr Thomas Kaiser from the Bavarian State Office for Information Security not only presented the work of his authority, but also gave a well-founded overview of the current security situation and the most pressing challenges in the area of cyber defence.
Optimising IT security at home and at work
The rest of the event was particularly practice-orientated: In exciting presentations, concrete tips and ideas were presented on how to effectively improve IT security both at work and at home. The event concluded with an exciting live hacking session presented by Andreas Grasser from Syss GmbH. He provided an insight into the world of hackers and clearly demonstrated how vulnerabilities in systems can be exploited - a programme item that particularly appealed to technology enthusiasts.
With around 200 visitors, the IT Security Day was a great success and a strong sign of how important and topical the subject of IT security is. The high response suggests that the event will be eagerly awaited again next year.
