Science Slam

OTH employees at the West German Science Slam Championships

On 26 October, the preliminary round for the West German Science Slam Championships took place in Cologne - with a member of staff from OTH Regensburg taking part.

Anton Achhammer, research associate at the Research Centre for Energy Networks and Energy Storage (FENES) at OTH Regensburg, presented his research on the stage of the sold-out Schauspielhaus in Cologne during the preliminary round. In front of an audience of 450 enthusiastic spectators, he presented a forward-looking topic at the Science Slam: socially and climate-friendly hydrogen imports from African countries, supported by the methods of energy system modelling.

In just ten minutes, he managed to convey his scientific topic in a way that was not only understandable but also entertaining - it is precisely this approach that makes a science slam so appealing. Anton Achhammer began performing at these events because he has always enjoyed presenting scientific content in a humorous way, for example through memes. He made his first appearance at a science slam in Regensburg, which was brought to his attention by a colleague as part of the Sustainability Week - and which he won straight away!
