OTH Regensburg hosts international band competition in Regensburg

Connecting young people in Europe through music is the aim of the Europavox Campus Band Competition, the international final of which will take place in Regensburg on 9 April 2025.

The French music platform Europavox is organising this contest for the third time, now even sponsored by the EU, together with the OTH Regensburg and universities from France (Université Clermont Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand), Romania (Universitatea ‘Ovidius’ din Constanța) and Norway (Høgskulen på Vestlandet, Bergen/Stord). The Lithuanian Vilniaus Gedimino technikos universitetas in Vilnius is also taking part for the first time.

While the 2023 finals were held in Clermont-Ferrand and 2024 in Bergen, OTH Regensburg will now host the ‘Welcoming Week’ for the international guests in 2025, which will frame the competition. Around 70 students and lecturers from the partner universities will come to Regensburg from 7 to 11 April and get to know the cultural life of the city in a programme organised by Prof. Dr. Christian Zürner from OTH Regensburg.

Music performance on the Stone Bridge

In addition to a reception with Lord Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, a tour of the city and campus, a film discussion in the Andreasstadel cinema, a jam session in Degginger and various workshops in W1, a performance on the Stone Bridge is planned for Tuesday, 8 April at 5 pm: Students from five countries will spread out over the entire length of the bridge and sing together to create a common bridge sound.

The highlight of the week will be the international final on Wednesday, 9 April at 7 p.m. in the Leerer Beutel, where the bands from Regensburg, Clermont-Ferrand, Constanta, Bergen and Vilnius will try to win over the audience and the international jury. Anyone interested in music is cordially invited to this special event. Admission is free.

‘Magazine Front Cover’ competes for the OTH Regensburg

OTH Regensburg will be represented in the final by the band ‘Magazine Front Cover’. Kolja Briesen, a student of social work at the Faculty of Social and Health Sciences, already wowed the audience in the local preliminary round at W1. With a powerful stage presence and profound, socially and self-critical songs, the artist, who creates a mixture of singer-songwriter aesthetics and indie rock with his electric guitar, won the competition.

Europavox is a music platform founded with the support of the European Commission. Its aim is to promote bands and artists from Europe and make them known to the European public. This unique cultural initiative brings together music and universities from Germany, France, Norway, Romania and Lithuania.
