Prof Dr Birgit Rösel re-elected as Vice President of OTH Regensburg

The Professor of Control Engineering will continue to be responsible for the areas of study and teaching, quality management and organisation as well as continuing education.

The University Council of OTH Regensburg confirmed Prof. Dr Birgit Rösel as Vice President for a further term of office on Friday, 8 November 2024. As a committed and award-winning teacher, Prof Rösel has already had a lasting impact on teaching in her previous position and is committed to promoting activating teaching methods and innovative forms of examination. ‘I am delighted that the University Council has placed its trust in me and I will continue to work on improving the quality of our teaching and introducing new innovative approaches. It is a matter close to my heart to prepare our students for their professional future in the best possible way,’ said Vice President Rösel.

President Prof. Dr Ralph Schneider welcomed the re-election and praised the commitment of Prof. Dr Rösel, who will continue to advance OTH Regensburg with her experience and expertise: ‘With Prof. Dr Birgit Rösel, we have an experienced and visionary colleague who represents and shapes our university excellently, especially in the areas of study and teaching. I am delighted that she will continue to fulfil this responsible position.’

Prof Dr Birgit Rösel has been a professor at OTH Regensburg since 2012 and teaches in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. After completing her studies and doctorate at TU Dresden, she worked as a development engineer for 15 years. Since moving to OTH Regensburg, she has taken on responsibility in numerous roles, including as Chair of the Senate, Chair of the Examination Board and Academic Advisor for the Regenerative Energy Technology and Energy Efficiency degree programme. During this time, she has also campaigned for the promotion of women in science and a stronger practical orientation in teaching.

Her expertise has been recognised with the Bavarian Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching (2018) and the Teaching Promotion Award from the Bavarian Ministry of Science (2020), which supports the implementation of pioneering teaching concepts at the university.

In her first term as Vice President for Studies and Teaching (since the summer semester of 2022), Prof Rösel was able to further develop innovative teaching formats and quality standards at OTH Regensburg. Among other things, she initiated the concept development and introduction of teaching innovation professorships, led the revision of the General Examination Regulations (APO) and supported the system reaccreditation of OTH Regensburg. Her key projects also include the creation of the Student Lifecycle Centre and the introduction of the pre-semester beING.

For her second term of office, Prof Rösel plans, among other things, to further consolidate teaching innovation projects and establish digitally supported examinations more firmly. She also wants to push ahead with the introduction of badges and microcredentials in selected degree programmes and establish the Centre for Transdisciplinary Studies as a visible institution at OTH.

With the re-election of Prof. Dr Rösel, the university management of OTH Regensburg remains as follows: Prof. Dr Ralph Schneider (President), Prof. Dr Oliver Steffens (Vice President for Research, International Affairs and Diversity), Prof. Dr Christoph Skornia (Vice President for Digitalisation and Sustainability), Prof. Dr Carina Braun (Vice President for Appointments and Student Lifecycle Management) and Prof. Dr Birgit Rösel (Vice President for Studies and Teaching, Quality Management, Organisation and Continuing Education).

The Chairman of the University Council, Michael Eibl, warmly congratulated Prof Rösel and expressed his conviction that the university is ideally positioned with its leadership team to master future challenges and further strengthen application-oriented teaching.
