Prof Dr Christoph Skornia was first elected to the office of Vice President at OTH Regensburg in July 2022. The University Council has now confirmed him as Vice President for a further term of office on Friday, 11 April 2025. ‘I would like to thank the University Council for the trust they have placed in me. It is a great pleasure for me to be able to continue working as Vice President at such a forward-looking university. I am very proud of what we have achieved together so far. The anchoring of sustainability in all areas of the university with the sustainability strategy and the introduction of collaborative digital structures are good examples of this,’ explained Prof Dr Christoph Skornia after his re-election. The 54-year-old IT expert is also committed to the topics of social responsibility, digitalisation and IT security as well as promoting STEM subjects.
President Prof. Dr Ralph Schneider emphasised the importance of Prof. Skornia's expertise and his commitment to the further development of the university: ‘The first term of office has shown that we have made an excellent decision by introducing a fourth Vice President in 2022. In our university development plan, we have anchored sustainability and climate justice as central development priorities - topics to which Vice President Skornia contributes significantly with great commitment and expertise. His work is crucial in preparing our university for future challenges and giving our students the best prospects for a responsible and innovative career.’
Expert in the future topics of digitalisation and sustainability
The Chairman of the University Council, Michael Eibl, congratulated Vice President Skornia on his re-election: ‘We are delighted to have Prof. Dr Christoph Skornia as an expert in the university management who understands digitalisation and sustainability as key factors for the development of the university and is driving these topics forward with commitment and vision. I am convinced that OTH Regensburg will continue to play a leading role in these forward-looking areas under his leadership.’
Prof Dr Christoph Skornia has been teaching information security at OTH Regensburg since 2012. He was Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics from 2019 to 2022. During his first term as Vice President for Digitalisation and Sustainability, he was able to further expand the university's digital infrastructure and launch numerous projects in the areas of IT security and sustainability. Prof Skornia is also the contact person for the topic of anti-Semitism. Under his patronage, the event series ‘Aspects of Anti-Semitism’ was launched in the winter semester 2024/25 and will be continued in the summer semester 2025.
Second term of office with new goals
In his second term of office, the Vice President plans, among other things, to further advance the digitalisation of the university and to make an even greater contribution to sustainable innovations in the areas of research and teaching. Key objectives will be the increased integration of sustainability topics into technical education and the promotion of digital processes in close dialogue with all interest groups.
