Gebrüder Dorfner is a leading company in the Upper Palatinate that specialises in innovative and sustainable material solutions. With 130 years of experience, the company is a reliable partner for customers in various industries. In addition to the company headquarters in Hirschau, Gebrüder Dorfner also has two other sites in the USA and Poland.
During the six weeks of the project, the students researched how AI could be used sensibly and efficiently in the HR work of an SME, which providers there are in this area, which legal framework conditions apply to the use of AI in HR work and how applicants feel about the topic of AI in personnel selection.
In mid-November, the students visited the headquarters of the Dorfner Group in Hirschau, where they were given a tour of the production facility and learnt a great deal more about the company in a discussion with CEO Mirko Mondan and CFO Monika Timm.
Shortly before Christmas, the students presented their project results to Sabine Hörig (HR officer at Gebrüder Dorfner) and Sarah Demel (HR employee at Gebrüder Dorfner). The students discussed the results of their research and made recommendations on what role AI could play in the HR work of an SME in the future and which AIs could support HR work from recruitment to selection.
One key fact that the students worked out is that AIs can primarily help with writing job adverts for specific target groups and distributing the job adverts to the applicant group via as many platforms as possible. When using artificial intelligence in recruiting, however, it is particularly important to be transparent with applicants and to comply with the legal framework.
Those responsible for the project at Gebrüder Dorfner as well as the students and Prof Dr Hartmann were very satisfied with the results of the project and everyone is certain that this was not the last time that OTH Regensburg has carried out a project together with Dorfner!
The project was part of the ‘Project Management’ module in the third semester of the ‘International Relations and Management’ Bachelor's degree programme under the direction of Prof. Dr Julia Hartmann. In addition to the ‘AI in personnel selection’ project, eleven other projects were carried out as part of the module.
