Special admission requirements for the Bachelor's degree programme in International Relations and Management

Proof of English language proficiency

Applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For the successful completion of this Bachelor's degree programme, it is recommended that applicants have English language skills at level B2 CEFR before commencing their studies.

We accept the following certificates:

  1. Certificate of completion from a German public or state-recognised gymnasium with at least the grade "sufficient", or more than 5 points in the “gymnasiale Oberstufe” in the subject English, based on the proficiency level at the end of grade 11 in the basic course (in G8: proficiency level at the end of grade 10).
  2. Certificate of completion from a German public or state-recognised technical college or vocational college with a grade of at least "sufficient" in English.
  3. Certificate of completion from a German public or state-recognised technical academy, (vocational) technical school or vocational college in which the CEFR level B1 (or better) for English is shown, or a successfully passed supplementary examination with at least the grade "sufficient" in English.
  4. Certificate of completion from a German public or state-recognised vocational school for foreign language professions with at least the grade "sufficient" in English as the first foreign language (main language).
  5. IELTS Academic certificate (IELTS General Training certificate is not recognized) with an overall grade of at least 5.0 points with a minimum performance of 4.0 in all sub-areas (recommended: 6.5 points with a minimum performance of 5.5 in all sub-areas).
  6. TOEFL certificate with at least 460 points in the "Paper-based Test" (TOEFL PBT) or 50 points in the "Internet-based Test" (TOEFL iBT) (recommended: at least 85 points),
  7. Cambridge English qualification with level B1 or higher (recommended: B2 with at least 170 points).

Proof of English language proficiency must be submitted with the application documents before the application deadline. For applications to the first semester (winter semester intake), there may be an additional deadline for late submissions until 27 July (subject to change, please check the current deadline requirements).
