There are a variety of funding opportunities for students provided by the Free State of Bavaria, the federal government and other institutions. Further information can be found on the homepage of the State Ministry of Science, Research and Arts.

Foundations and supporting institutions

Prizes for students of the OTH Regensburg:

  • The Christa Lindner Foundation promotes science and research by supporting students of economics, business informatics and international relations and management at OTH Regensburg by awarding prizes for outstanding academic work.

    The prizes are awarded for outstanding results in final theses. The selection of the students to be supported must be based in particular on their personality, their academic results, their assertiveness and their specialist knowledge.

  • Since 1995, the OTH Regensburg has awarded the prize for outstanding achievements of international students studying at German universities by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to OTH Regensburg students.

    The DAAD Prize is endowed with 1000 euros per university.

  • The Deggendorf University Prize is awarded every two years to graduates, professors or project groups at Deggendorf Institute of Technology. Prizes are awarded for completed and already assessed Bachelor's and Master's theses as well as dissertations or applied research and development work from all scientific disciplines. In individual cases, comparable work from other universities may also be considered.

    The prerequisite is that the work is related to the city of Deggendorf or the Deggendorf region.

    Consideration will be given in particular to achievements that are characterized by particular innovation, new findings in the field of research or recognizable advantages in the form of process optimization in practical application.

    Bachelor's and Master's theses will only be considered if they have been awarded a grade of at least 2.

    The Deggendorf University Prize is endowed with €10,000. The prize can be awarded to one or more applicants or only in part.

  • Since 2005, the Order of the Brothers of Mercy, Bavarian Province, has awarded a sponsorship prize for successful graduates of the Faculty of Applied Social and Health Care Sciences at OTH Regensburg.

    Every year, the prize is awarded to theses that have been graded "very good" and deal with the topics of help for people with disabilities and/or mentally ill people, rehabilitation, work with the elderly and care for the elderly, adult education, social work in hospitals, hospice work, help for the homeless, the Christian conception of man or ethical issues.

    Graduates with very good theses (BA or MA) are nominated by their supervisors to the selection committee in the summer semester. The committee then selects the winners.

    The festive award ceremony, at which the prizewinners present their work themselves, usually takes place in mid-November.

  • Since 2005, Soroptimist International Club Regensburg has awarded an annual prize to particularly talented female graduates of the OTH Regensburg who have completed their degree in a technical or scientific field. The prize is endowed with 1,500 euros.

    Criteria:

    • outstanding Bachelor's or Master's thesis in a technical or scientific field
    • outstanding technical knowledge
    • communicative competence
    • personality
    • role model for young women when deciding on a subject that is not typical for women
    • previous or possibly planned experience abroad

    The Soroptimist International Club Regensburg would like to specifically promote young female academics in technical and scientific faculties. For this reason, outstanding female graduates are to be honored as role models for female high school graduates and first-year students. The aim is to encourage them to turn to areas of education in which women have been significantly underrepresented to date.

    One of Soroptimist's aims is to promote equality for women in the workplace and in society. Soroptimist International is a worldwide organization of working women and can therefore offer graduates idealistic support for their future careers through its network.

  • Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Regensburg-Schwandorf pursues different goals with its sponsorship. On the one hand, it supports three students each year with a one-off scholarship of 1,000 euros each, who come from non-academic families in the Regensburg and Schwandorf region and have very good academic achievements in a Bachelor's degree course. On the other hand, an outstanding final thesis in the field of economics can be awarded 1,500 euros (the Faculty of Business Studies proposes a winner for this prize).

  • Since 2003, the Josef Stanglmeier Foundation has awarded a prize of 2,500 euros in addition to the Josef Stanglmeier Prize for the best student innovation of the year.

    The aim of this award is to encourage creative students to work on original invention ideas or developments and to transfer them into a practice-oriented application.

    Criteria:

    • Innovation idea must come from the student
    • Original invention or new development that is used in practice
    • Innovation can be part of a thesis, but does not have to be
    • The award winner must be present in person on the day of the award ceremony

  • The Josef Stanglmeier Foundation was established by the Bavarian building contractor and politician Josef Stanglmeier on December 12, 1978. The foundation was approved by order of the former Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture on December 21, 1978. The purpose of the foundation is to

    • promote the education and training of young people in Bavaria
    • promote meaningful leisure activities for young people in Bavaria
    • provide support for people in need or in distress
    • promote sports
    • promote science and research
    • promote arts

    The Josef Stanglmeier Foundation has provided OTH Regensburg with a large sum of money every year since 1989. Students who wish to spend a practical semester abroad receive grants from this fund. Every year since 1995, students with outstanding achievements have been awarded the Josef Stanglmeier Prize, each endowed with 2,500 euros. Five prizes are awarded each year. The prize provides financial support for a practical semester abroad.

     

    Criteria

    • social and voluntary commitment
    • neediness: the prize is intended to help students who could hardly or not at all afford a stay abroad
    • the prize should contribute to the development of the student's personality
    • the prize is intended exclusively for a planned (not already completed) practical semester abroad
    • the award winners must be present in person on the day of the award ceremony
    • the prize money will only be paid out when the stay abroad begins

  • In close cooperation with the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts, Bayernwerk AG awards the annual Bavarian Culture Prize, which is also awarded to the best graduates of all Bavarian state universities.

    Applications must be submitted to the Communications Office in consultation with the secretary's office of the respective faculty. The application period is April to May. You can find the form here.


  • MTG Wirtschaftskanzlei(www.mtg-group.de), with offices in Regensburg, Kelheim, Straubing, Ingolstadt and Nuremberg, is a supra-regional commercial law firm with an interdisciplinary consulting approach. MTG Wirtschaftskanzlei has been awarding the "MTG Prize" since 2006.

    The founder honors outstanding Bachelor's or Master's theses from the Faculty of Business Studies in the fields of auditing, accounting and taxation, controlling, project management, financing, company valuation or corporate management. In particular, the prize is awarded to theses with high practical applicability. The prize is endowed with 1,500 euros.

  • The recognition has been awarded annually since 2015 by the Verein der Freunde der OTH Regensburg e.V. in cooperation with the Katholische Jugendfürsorge der Diözese Regensburg e.V. (formerly the Diversity Prize). The aim is to encourage and recognize the double burden of studying with family responsibilities or studying with a disability/chronic illness. The recognition is awarded to students from the 4th semester Bachelor or 2nd semester Master in two categories and is endowed with 500 euros each:

    • Studies + family responsibilities
    • Studies + disability/chronic illness

  • Professor Otto Helmut Eckl was one of the first to teach at the Regensburg University of Applied Sciences, now OTH Regensburg, when it was founded in 1971. As deputy head of department, he helped to establish the Department of Business Studies and played a key role in shaping education there. Until his retirement in 1986, he himself represented the fields of business administration, personnel organization and personnel management.

    After Professor Eckl's death, his widow Alice established the Otto Helmut and Alice Eckl Foundation in 2003 with the aim of promoting education and training as well as science and research at OTH Regensburg. Among other things, it fulfills this task by awarding scholarships and prizes to OTH Regensburg students who distinguish themselves through outstanding achievements and social commitment.

    Support for stays abroad

    Since 2004, the Otto Helmut and Alice Eckl Foundation has been awarding scholarships to OTH Regensburg students for study-related and study-promoting stays abroad. The maximum amount of funding is 4,000 euros. The selection of the scholarship holders to be supported must be based in particular on their personality, their previous study results and their social commitment.     Alice Eckl Nursing Prize

    Since 2017, the Otto Helmut and Alice Eckl Foundation has been awarding the Alice Eckl Nursing Prize to students and doctoral candidates at OTH Regensburg for scientific work that promotes, improves and advances nursing care. Individual projects in connection with care issues, be it professional care or care by relatives, can be honored or enabled. Awards can also be given for special work that is related to nursing care but does not come directly from the field of nursing science. The Alice Eckl Nursing Prize is therefore aimed at all faculties. It is endowed with a maximum of 5,000 euros.

  • The RCER Prize for Energy Research of the Regensburg Center of Energy and Resources (RCER) is awarded for outstanding ideas and work in the field of energy research. The target group is all students and graduates of OTH Regensburg. Three prizes are awarded each year. Each prize is endowed with 500 euros.

    All professors from every faculty at OTH Regensburg can nominate prize winners. The prize is awarded alternately at the Energy Congress or at the RCER Committee at the beginning of the summer semester.

    Please send your specific information on the publication or technical contribution as well as a letter of recommendation by November 15 at the latest toanrcer(at)oth-regensburg.de.

  • Since 2017, the Verein der Freunde der OTH Regensburg e.V. has presented the Science Award for very good theses. Its predecessor was the presentation prize, which has been awarded since 1997.

    The aim is to present the range of scientific work at OTH Regensburg in a publicly effective way. A particular focus of the Science Award is on the area of "transfer". Cooperation with companies or civil society institutions in the context of the work or perspectives for the transferability of the relevant content into practice are expressly desired.

    The award winners receive prize money of 500 euros, a one-year free membership in the Association of Friends of OTH Regensburg e.V. and presentation coaching so that they can present their work at the award ceremony confidently and in a way that is appropriate for the target group.

    Criteria:

    • scientific relevance of the thesis in the subject
    • quality
    • transfer relevance

    Self-application is not possible. Possible candidates are nominated by the respective faculty.


  • Student commitment is a key driver of communal living and working on campus. It offers students the opportunity to acquire professional and social skills as well as to try things out for themselves.

    In the student councils, the student convention, the speaker's council and student associations, students share responsibility for the further development of teaching and make studying a lively experience for themselves and their fellow students.

    In recognition of this work, the Association of Friends of OTH Regensburg awards the prize for student commitment every year at the campus festival.

  • To promote OTH Regensburg, the foundation awards an annual prize for an outstanding Bachelor's thesis and an outstanding Master's thesis. The prize is awarded to graduates with a very good degree and outstanding results in their Bachelor's or Master's thesis.

    The award is endowed with 1,500 euros.

    The foundation also awards prizes for particularly outstanding doctorates. The award is endowed with 2,000 euros.

  • The Straubing University Prize is awarded to graduates and/or doctoral students. Outstanding bachelor's and master's theses as well as dissertations from all scientific fields are honored.

    Prerequisite: the theses must be related to the Straubing region or the Straubing-Bogen district and have a grade of at least 2.0.

    The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros and can also be split between several applicants.

  • Helping to shape engineering education is one of the main areas of activity of the Association of German Engineers, which has 125,000 members. In order to honor the generally close cooperation with universities, many university locations award prizes for excellent final theses. At the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule, this has been done in close cooperation with the university directors since 1985 and takes place every two years.

    With this award, the VDI wants to emphasize the idea of achievement and give the engineering students, supervising professors and supervisors in business and industry the feeling that they have done excellent work.
