  • Seminar for International Students

    Date: Saturday, 7 December 2024, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Trainer: Dipl.-Psych. Heike Abt, Institut für Kooperationsmanagement (IKO)

Venue: On campus (Galgenberg); room K 004

    Organiser: International Office

Language: Seminar will be held in English.

    Workshop Description:

    Aims and Benefits

The seminar offers international students a basic orientation for interaction between themselves and people socialized in other cultures, at the university as well as in a professional context at companies in Germany. The measures make it easier for participants to independently recognize and understand cultural characteristics in thinking, feeling, and acting. They are enabled to reduce unnecessary conflicts and frictional losses and to develop ideas for action to the mutual satisfaction of both sides so that they can act successfully in an international context. Participants can use cultural differences and tensions as a learning field and clarify them in a culturally appropriate way. They get to know their own reactions to different cultural behaviors and develop solutions for dealing with culturally determined differences. They are aware of the cultural imprint of their own behavior and how this can influence intercultural interaction.

    • Knowledge of the fundamental cultural differences between people with different socialization histories
    • Reflection on their own behavior in an international context at university and in the professional world
    • Development of new approaches and alternative courses of action

    Methods

In addition to information units and awareness-raising exercises, the focus of the seminar is primarily on systematic work on case studies from the participants' own everyday life at the OTH Regensburg or in professional contexts or research, which are viewed from different thematic perspectives to develop additional alternative courses of action for practice.
