Information on the application to the programme Bachelor of Science in International Mechanical Engineering (IME)

A sufficient number of participants is a prerequisite for the start of this study programme. The standard period of study for full-time students is 7 semesters.

 

1. Qualification requirements

a) You must be qualified to study at state universities of applied sciences in the Free State of Bavaria in accordance with the Qualification Ordinance (QualV) in its current version.


b) You must provide proof of English language skills of at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Knowledge of English at level B2 is preferred. The following language certificates are recognised:

  • Final certificate of a public or state-recognised German gymnasium with at least the grade "sufficient", or more than 5 points in the “gymnasiale Oberstufe” in the subject English based on the proficiency level at the end of grade 11 in the basic course (in G8: proficiency level at the end of grade 10)
  • A certificate of completion from a public or state-recognised technical college or vocational college with a grade of at least "sufficient" in English
  • Certificate from a public or state-recognised technical academy, (vocational) technical school or vocational college in which the CEFR level B1 (or better) for English is shown, or a successfully passed supplementary examination with at least the grade "sufficient" in English, the certificate of a public or state-recognised vocational school for foreign language professions with at least the grade "sufficient" in English as the first foreign language (main language).
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with an overall score of at least 5.0 points with a minimum grade of 4.0 in all sections ("IELTS General Training" is not recognised)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with at least 460 points in the "Paper-based Test" (TOEFL PBT) or 50 points in the "Internet-based Test" (TOEFL iBT)
  • Cambridge English qualification with level B1 or higher
  • TELC, level B1
  • Statement that English is your native language

c) If you have not obtained your university entrance qualification in the German system, you are required to submit proof of sufficient German language proficiency (CEFR level A2). We accept the following certificates:

  • Goethe certificate A2
  • telc certificate A2
  • ÖSD A2
  • DSD certificate level I with at least B1 in all exam parts
  • Studienkolleg certificate (Feststellungsprüfung "Deutsch")

d) If you have not had any practical / vocational training during your previous schooling or studies, you will be required to present proof that you have completed a full-time internship of at least six weeks in a field related to your programme (pre-study internship). You will be asked to present this document before starting your studies or at the latest before starting the mandatory internship phase (module 25).

e) If you wish, you may individually opt for the alternative form of dual study. For this purpose, yout must provide evidence of a contractual relationship with a company or corresponding institution contractually approved by the university.

2. Application process

The application for admission is entirely in electronic form. The documents must be uploaded in due time and form in the application portal of the OTH Regensburg. Before applying at OTH Regensburg, you must also create an account on hochschulstart.de and apply for the programme. The allocation of the places of study will take place through hochschulstart.de, so you will not be able to participate in the application procedure without signing up first. Application Period: For the winter semester 1 May - 15 July

Please note that this is a cut-off period.  Late applications will not be considered.

 

3. Required documents

- University entrance qualification 
- Curriculum vitae
- If the university entrance qualification was achieved abroad: VPD from Uni-Assist / certificate from Studienkolleg
- English language certificate level B1
- If the university entrance qualification was achieved abroad: German language certificate level A2
- If you have already studied in Germany before: de-registration / exmatriculation certificate

The application documents must be uploaded with your application before the application deadline on 15 July.
Certificates from abroad must be submitted in the foreign language original and a notarised translation into English or German.
The university entrance qualification / VPD from Uni-Assist / certificate from Studienkolleg can be submitted after the application deadline until the end of the extension period on 27 July (final submission deadline!). Please apply for the VPD from Uni-Assist at least 6-8 weeks in advance. There will be no deadline extensions for VPD in case you will not receive it on time! The English language certificate must be uploaded before 15 July.
The German language certificate can be uploaded until 28 August if necessary. Otherwise, enrolment will be denied.
If you are already enrolled at another German university, you can submit the exmatriculation certificate until 28 August or at the latest until the start of the semester.

4. Choice of language

The main language of instruction in this programme is English. The programme includes two language blocks:

Language Block A:
This language block includes compulsory German language modules in the first four semesters and is designed for students who have NOT achieved German language proficiency level B1 (GER) when applying for the programme.

Language Block B:
Students who have already achieved German language proficiency level B1 when applying for the programme will be allocated to language block B and will be asked to choose compulsory language modules from the course catalogue of the Faculty for Applied Natural Sciences and Cultural Studies.

 

5. Service fee for non-EU students

Starting from the winter semester 2024/25, the OTH Regensburg will charge service fees of 500 € per semester for students from non-EU countries in accordance with section 13 (3) sentence 1, no. 6 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG). These fees only apply to non-EU students enrolled in English-language degree programmes.

The 500 € service fee is charged each semester in addition to the regular semester fee and is payable upon enrolment or re-registration. The fee will be used to expand the services necessary for the support and integration of international students enrolled in English-language degree programmes at the OTH Regensburg.  

 

6. Important information
