  • 1. preamble

    The “Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg” (OTH Regensburg) is a university of applied sciences in the Free State of Bavaria with a long tradition. It has an extensive academic portfolio in the fields of engineering, natural sciences, business studies, social sciences, health sciences and design.

    In Eastern Bavaria, the OTH Regensburg plays a prominent role in academic, practice-oriented education, applied research and continuing education programmes. The university ensures that the next generation of scientists and scholars remains in the region and beyond. It is an indispensable partner in research and technology transfer. 

    Thanks to its size and its attractiveness to applicants, the OTH Regensburg can offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes. The high number of interdisciplinary study programmes and the variety of subject-specific and personality-building content are special features here. For some areas of teaching and research, the OTH Regensburg has an exclusive position in Eastern Bavaria and in some cases far beyond.

    The OTH Regensburg is committed to the freedom of study, teaching and research as well as to the development of democratic decision-making processes.

    We are committed to offering a practice-oriented university-level education, high standard applied research and a challenging academic further education programme. We are involved in a variety of cooperations to secure the future of the region, the country and society.

    • The “Städtischen Baugewerkschule” (Municipal School of Building Trades) is transformed into a construction school with five courses.

    1898

    • The “Städtische Baugewerkschule Regensburg” (Regensburg Municipal School of Building Trades) is opened as the successor to the “Gewerblichen Fachschule” (Vocational Technical School)

    1893

    • Master builder Julius Pöverlein establishes a trade school

    1868

    • The private one-class construction school is combined with the “Königlichen Realschule” (Royal Secondary School)

    1846

    • The drafting teacher Johann Dorner founds a private one-class school for construction

    1819

    • Professor von Schmöger asks the royal Bavarian and immediate local school inspectorate of the district capital Regensburg to announce the beginning of the polytechnic school

  • The OTH Regensburg guarantees the best starting conditions for a successful professional career. With over 11,000 students, it is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany. More than 50 practice-oriented Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in the fields of technology, business, social sciences, health, architecture and design, distinguish themselves through high quality teaching and research.

    Research at the OTH Regensburg is oriented around the following five key topic areas: Energy and Mobility, Information and Communication, Life Sciences and Ethics, Production and Systems, and Buildings and Infrastructure. Sensor technology and Digitalisation serve as interdisciplinary topics.

    In cooperation with some 265 companies, the OTH Regensburg also offers a wide range of dual study programmes. Cooperations with industry in the region play a major role in teaching and research. Successful studies at the OTH Regensburg are based on modern service facilities, an award-winning library as well as 120 laboratories.

    The International Office at the OTH Regensburg is responsible for providing optimal support for all international students.  Thanks to a wide range of activities offered by the International Office, international students are integrated into university life from the very beginning. For example, in the "Big Brother/Big Sister" programme, they are assigned German students as mentors who help the international guests find their way around the campus and the city. The OTH Regensburg maintains partnerships with a total of more than 200 universities abroad.

    Studying in Regensburg, Germany is fun. Regensburg is surrounded by an exceptionally beautiful countryside and the city itself is distinguished by its medieval character. At the same time, it is a highly modern city. Regensburg is noted for its open-mindedness, diverse study and leisure opportunities and its excellent job market. Regensburg's Old Town, Cathedral and Stone Bridge are World Heritage Sites.
