Study organization

  • According to Art. 48 Para. 2 APO, it is possible to take a leave of absence from studies for an important reason. Important information on leave of absence:

Special provisions: There are special regulations for pregnant women and student parents. Circumstances that justify maternity protection and parental leave for employees are therefore also considered "important reasons". Students are therefore granted leave of absence for maternity protection and parental leave upon application until the child reaches the age of 3 at the latest. In accordance with the Federal Parental Allowance Act, fathers can also take leave of absence.

Students who are on parental leave and apply for leave of absence may attend lectures and take examinations.

BAföG: Please notify the Bafög office of your leave of absence immediately. No BAföG will be paid during the leave of absence. It is also very likely that no child benefit will be paid to you during your leave of absence (please check with your family benefits office before taking leave of absence).

  • There are deadlines for certain examinations (e.g. basic and orientation examinations, repeat examinations). If these are missed due to non-attendance, five deadlines and failed attempts will follow. Please note the information provided by the Examinations Office in the event of illness during the examination period.

  • As a student, youcan find information on maternity protectionhere

Spatial conditions

  • There is a large family room in the basement of the student building, room Y-102. This is designed to help members of the university combine studies, family and career.

Students and employees of OTH Regensburg can bring their children aged 0 to 12 years to the university by the hour and supervise them (independently) in the family room. The room can also be booked for group work and team meetings while the children play independently in the play corner. The room can also be used for breastfeeding and feeding.

The room is locked. We would like to ask you to reserve the room in advance at familienbuero(at)oth-regensburg.de or 0941/943 - 9208. You will then receive the key from the family office.

There is also a family room at the Prüfening site, room P063. This should always be freely accessible. If you find the room locked, this was an oversight, which I apologize for. You are welcome to contact me in this case.

Lantern procession

In November, the OTH Regensburg lantern parade always takes place on the Thursday after the Day of Prayer and Repentance for all members of the university. Songs are sung and afterwards there is a cozy get-together in the family room.

You can take part in the event without registering. All children and parents who enjoy walking across the campus with a lantern and socializing can take part.

Go&Play Box

If parents have to take their children to an event because childcare has been canceled at short notice and the Family Office cannot provide emergency care, a Go&Play Box can be borrowed. These trolley cases with activity material for children of different age groups can be borrowed from the library (Seybothstraße and Prüfening). Further information and inventory lists for the Go & Play Boxes can be found here:
